One of those weeks…

It’s been a busy week (which I’m very grateful for) but sometimes my concentration is lacking the busier I get. I started a Stack ‘N’ Whack Star quilt that has 12 blocks to have to display for the class. The pattern utilizes sashing and I have to admit, I am not a huge sashing lover. I have had the blocks on my design wall for 2-3 days now, wondering how it will look without sashing and I am just about ready to dive in and sew it together. What’s the worst that will happen….a little unsewing if I don’t like it. I am an experienced unsewer so not a huge deal.

I worked on a semi-custom quilt for a customer and just finished an all over design quilt for another. The longarm is getting busier and busier the closer to Christmas we get. I’m about 2 weeks out on quilts at this point so if you need something quilted before Christmas – let me know quickly. Spaces will fill fast.

My final project of the week I am so excited about. I have been looking at my Christmas “Frosty Folks” Flannel for a couple months now and finally I couldn’t resist. It is red, grey and white and has adorable mittens and SNOWMEN on it. I just finished up the quilt top (60-1/2″ x 74″). I can’t wait to get it quilted and the binding on. Flannel is so nice on a cold winter night.

Stop in and see us…kits are being made this week for many of the projects hanging around the store. Happy Quilting!!

Buffalo Pride

Buffalo PRIDE!!

What started out as a little project to show our Buffalo Pride on games days with a double sided banner to hang in front of the store,

has evolved into a 75×90 Buffalo Pride Quilt. It is purple, grey, white and black and features a large appliqué of the Meade Buffalo in the center panel. There are so many ways to change up and personalize this quilt it is exciting. If you would like a memory quilt of your child’s year(s) through Meade, the squares are made to sizes that can be removed and photos inserted sporadically. You can also change the 2×2 squares to 4×4 squares for less drama (and a lot less sewing). I can’t wait to get this on the quilt machine this week!!

If you would like a custom Buffalo Pride quilt, let us know. We can cut kits with fabrics of your choices (we have some adorable lavender basics that would be really nice looking for a girl). We are also working on Mustang, Goldbug, Wildcat and Bluejay panels. Now on to a quilt of valor…Happy sewing!!

Trying a Little Appliqué…

I took some much needed time at the lake to relax and of course do a lot of quilting. I decided to try my hand at a little appliqué. I have discovered that I LOVE appliqué! I discovered some things I will do different (mainly the beak area) but I’m already planning my next project. Hope my son’s college friend enjoys this cute little baby quilt for their new son.

Fun Project

What a whirlwind of a few weeks. Opening the store, figuring out a schedule between it and the newspaper, and taking care of my adorable grandson, Harrison. I started a new project that is an old favorite….A Double Slice Cake.

I am using Thistle Farm by Kansas Troubles – you can’t go wrong with Kansas Troubles! This pattern uses a layer cake if you want a lap quilt, but I am going to double it and make it a queen size, adding a piano key border with some of my scraps. Here is a look at one I did years ago that I use on the bed in the back of the store.

We also received a bunch of new fabric this week. My new favorite is Ava Rose by Riley Blake Designs. It is beautiful coral, aqua, tan and gray. We are also expanding our blender line so stop in and check them out.

First Week…

With the Fourth of July my first week in business is coming to a close today. It has been an exciting week meeting new people and seeing old friends but I managed to squeeze in a little quilting.

I am quilting a Swoon Quilt made from Bonnie and Camille for a customer. It is going to be beautiful with all the intricate patterns.

On the sewing machine, I have two projects going…one is never enough is it? When Reindeer Magic from Henry Glass & Co. came in I knew I had to make a quilt from it. I am a snowman fanatic and the panel is so cute with the snowman and reindeer.  I started creating on my EQ7 and came up with a pattern that I felt fit the fabric well. It includes 2 sets of four patch borders that are in a random pattern – not my strong suit. I like things even and in line but it’s time to step out of my comfort zone a little. The outside border will utilize the candy cane squares that come on the border as cornerstones.

My final project of the week is a patriotic table runner. It is an appliqué pattern, which for me goes a little slower than regular piecing. I love the look of appliqué, it just adds dimension to a quilt or table runner. This one should be finished today (at least I hope as tomorrow is the Fourth).

Happy Quilting and Happy Fourth of July from all of us at Honeycomb Quilts!

I am so excited to announce our Simply Sampler Block of the Month (BOM) for 2017. My amazing mom, Darlene Anderson, designed the quilt that is sure to please all ages. It is perfect for a beginner but also teaches some new techniques to achieve some classic blocks with a few ‘shortcut’ tricks. The 12 block quilt is designed using newly released Coney Island prints from Fig Tree Quilts by Moda. Each month participants will receive a new block to work on at home, or you come stop by the classroom and join in on the fun with other quilters. Check out our calendar for class times for the Simply Sampler quilt. All 12 blocks are $25, which is required at time of sign-up. If you would like to pre-pay and secure your finishing kit, that is also optional (at a cost of $40, which includes tax). With 40 different styles of fabric in the line, there is endless possibilities to personalize your sampler. To sign up today, go to our BOM – Simply Sampler 2017 page and fill out the information. It starts in July and there is limited space – so don’t delay!!
